Weddings are an essential part of every culture, and feature differences small and large in just about every country in the world. Personally, I have been to so many weddings in my life and all of them were so much different. In this post I will share some unique features of weddings in Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Russia.

1. Kyrgyzstan

unlike other weddings, in Kyrgyzstand there are 2: bride's wedding and groom's wedding. Bride's wedding is always smaller and made by bride's family in order to present their daughter to become a bride anf getting married. Groom's wedding is very similar to usual weddings in other parts of the world. The wedding starts from early morning and lasts for whole day and ends at midnight. The groom is heading to bride's house and after they have some rides around the city or town and spend time with friends taking pictures. By the evening they go to the restaurant, where other family members and guests are waiting for them. Eating, drinking, playing games, dancing are usual activities for Kyrgyz wedding. Official marriage documents are signed different days :)

2. Turkey

I was shocked when I went to Turkish wedding. Weddings often feature thousands of people, where entire villages attend and if you don't even know the bride and the groom and see them for the first time, it's not a big deal :) 
The groom usually appears at the bride's home to take her away as family and friends "give her away." Often times, the groom has to knock many many times as the bride's family "refuses to open the door to him" as a joke. Gold and money are the main wedding gifts in Turkey, and there's typically even a ceremony after the official marriage is complete.

3. Russia 

A traditional Russian wedding can last between two days and one week. The celebration involves dancing, singing, toasting, and banqueting. The best man and maid of honor are called Witnesses or "svideteli" in Russian. It's very similar to Kyrgyz broom wedding. However, the first toast is made to the newlyweds and after the first shot the guests begin to shout Gorko, Gorko, Gorko (Gorko means “bitter”). At this point the couple must kiss for a long time to take out the bitter taste of the champagne (or vodka :) ).
